About the Lab

Tamar Ben Shaanan’s lab in the Department of Molecular Neuroscience at Weizmann attempts to reshape our relationship with pain by unlocking its therapeutic potential. Using mouse genetics, high-resolution genomics, and state-of-the-art tools, her team compares the communication between neurons underlying pain perception and tissue-resident cells.

Scholar Profile

Dr. Ben Shaanan’s PhD in Medical Sciences from Technion’s Department of Immunology and Neuroscience in the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine demonstrated how activating the brain’s reward system enhances protective antibacterial and anti-tumor immune responses.

Her postdoc at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, University of California, San Francisco, showed a previously unknown cellular pathway connecting the sensation of pain with enhanced hair follicle regeneration.
