Lab Research Areas
The lab for advanced ultrafast sources researches and develops high-power lasers, especially fiber lasers, which are becoming increasingly important in a variety of fields ranging from military applications to healthcare.
Scholar Profile
Dr. Pavel Sidorenko moved to Israel at age 16 from Russia and finished high school on a kibbutz. As an undergraduate, he worked on building a remote monitoring system for environmental pollution, an experience that began his love for experimental physics, optics, and developing new technologies.
Dr. Sidorenko pursued a PhD in Physics at Technion–Israel Institute of Technology, working on super resolution lensless imaging (with new possibilities for computational imaging and ultrafast microscopy), as well as on generating high harmonics using ultrafast laser pulses (creating new ways to study the electronic structure of materials).
Dr. Sidorenko continued his interest in ultrafast lasers during his postdoctoral studies at the School of Applied and Engineering Physics at Cornell University, with the potential to significantly improve a wide range of manufacturing processes, from welding and cutting to surface treatment. He has received several US patents and applied for others.
