Yoav Shechtman
Zuckerman Faculty Scholar Yoav Shechtman is advancing a cost-effective method for fabricating diffractive optical elements (DOEs) at his Nano-bio Optics Lab at the Technion. These precision components are used to shape and control light in microscopy, imaging, laser systems, and optical communications. The technique leverages high-resolution 3D printing with transparent materials and matched refractive indices to rapidly prototype and manufacture custom optics, and enables faster iteration, greater design flexibility, and even very large elements difficult to produce with conventional methods, while maintaining high optical performance. Potential applications include microlens arrays, Fresnel lenses, vortex plates, gratings, phase masks, and other custom beam-shaping components.
