Developing Techniques for Rapid Detection of COVID-19
Nano-Bio Optics Lab, Technion – Israel Institute of Technology

Zuckerman Faculty Scholar, Asst. Prof. Yoav Shechtman, and Dr. Lucien Weiss, a Zuckerman Postdoctoral Scholar in his lab, are among a select group of Israeli scientists currently in the fight against COVID-19. At the start of the shutdown, his Nano-Bio-Optics lab in the Biomedical Engineering Department at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology received special permission to remain open to work on developing rapid detection and possible antibodies for the coronavirus.

Researchers at the Shechtman Lab are working on developing new strategies for ultrasensitive and rapid sample analysis, studying fundamental cell behavior and developing new diagnostic tests that measure antibiotic resistance in bacteria. While still in its preliminary stage, Dr. Shechtman and his researchers are excited to be exploring this new regime. The Zuckerman Institute wishes them continued success in their search for rapid detection and potential antibodies for this terrible virus.
