MIT-Israel Zuckerman STEM Fund Launch
The new fund is designed to match MIT faculty with their counterparts at Israeli universities to promote the next generation of groundbreaking research in science and technology. MIT faculty from all disciplines are invited to submit proposals for partnerships with Israeli faculty at one of the following institutions: Bar-Ilan University; Ben-Gurion University of the Negev; Hebrew University of Jerusalem; Technion–Israel Institute of Technology; Tel Aviv University; University of Haifa; and the Weizmann Institute of Science.
In his opening remarks, Richard Lester, Associate Provost for International Activities and Professor of Nuclear Science and Engineering at MIT, said: “The launch of the MIT-Israel Zuckerman STEM Fund will help strengthen our collaborations with Israel; enable our faculty to work with Israeli faculty; and offer our students, especially graduate students, the opportunity to learn firsthand about Israel’s ‘start-up nation’ landscape and its academic institutions and research.”
Eran Ben-Joseph, Professor of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT, presented an overview of collaboration between MIT and Israeli universities.
Zuckerman Institute trustee James Gertler closed the event by addressing the importance of the new Fund as a strategic partnership that enhances collaboration and deepens relations between Israel and the US, a core vision of the Zuckerman Institute.
