Accelerating lasers
Technion - Israel Institute of Technology

Congratulations to Pavel Sidorenko, Zuckerman Faculty Scholar at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, on receiving a prestigious Israel Science Foundation (ISF) Grant for his research on ultrafast lasers. Specifically, he studies how waves behave in multimode fibers and explores pathways to a new era of high-performance, ultrafast lasers. The four-year grant will fund Dr. Sidorenko’s research to design and build a laser where multiple transverse modes interact, but aren’t locked together, making this the first time this type of STML laser will be demonstrated. It will also enable the generation of multiple frequency combs with different repetition rates.

In addition, Dr. Sidorenko will study Kerr Beam Self-Cleaning (KBSC), to determine the difference between theoretical predictions (where beam quality stays the same), and experimental results (where beam quality improves). Learning how energy spreads in complex systems could lead to new advancements in high-power laser technology.
