An educational forum promoting academic exchange between the United States and Israel, the symposium also showcased the talents of the Zuckerman STEM Leadership Scholars, a cadre of select American postdoctoral and faculty researchers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Held at Tel Aviv University, the symposium featured presentations by Zuckerman STEM Scholars about their respective areas of research, including non-surgical treatments for obesity, the modification of microscopes to extract 3D information and color images, the study of echolocation as used by bats to find food in the dark, and several others.

Eric Gertler and James Gertler, Zuckerman STEM Program Trustees, welcomed and thanked the guests. Among the speakers and attendees were Tel Aviv University President Joseph Klafter, Technion President Peretz Lavie, and Hebrew University President Asher Cohen, as well as Yossi Vardi, the “godfather of Israeli hi-tech”, Dan Gillerman, Former Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Moti Segev, the Robert J. Shillman Distinguished Professor of Physics at the Technion–Israel Institute of Technology, Professor Laura Lindenfeld, Director of the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science, and Professor Thomas Levenson of the MIT Graduate Program in Science Writing.
